APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FROM THE RCTC FOUNDATION

You have until February 14, 2022 to apply for RCTC Foundation scholarships if you are transferring to a four-year institution this fall! Please apply if you want to be considered for a scholarship from the Foundation. Check out the Scholarship Portal today! It is important to remember that these scholarships will be for the 2022-2023 academic year.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENTS

Black History Month is an important observance in the U. S., and RCTC wants to provide our students with a number of opportunities to engage in activities to learn more about the contributions and achievement of African Americans throughout our nation’s history.

For Black History Month, RCTC Student Life is:

  • Offering 10 students free access to the ASALH Virtual Festival “Black Bodies: From Exploitation to Excellence Part 1 and 2”
  • Providing opportunities for celebration through art in the Hive and in the Heintz Center Commons all month long
  • Streaming the thought-provoking documentary “13th” in the Hive on February 16th
  • Paying the entry fee for any RCTC into the “Community Connections: African Americans in Rochester” exhibit located at the History Center of Olmsted County.

All of these events are free to RCTC Students. Additionally in the Student Life February newsletter, you can find additional free virtual events for anyone to get involved in!

RUN FOR STUDENT GOVERNMENT

Applications are now open for students to run in the 2022 Student Government Spring General Election. Intent to Run forms are due Thursday, February 3 by midnight. There are 12 open positions along with the Student Treasurer position.

Benefits of being a Student Senator include, but are not limited to:

  • Senator positions are paid
    • Student Senator positions are paid $175 per semester
    • Treasurer position is paid $1200 per semester
  • Travel opportunities for LEAD MN and student government conferences
  • Leadership training and development
  • Learning about local, state, and national politics
  • Networking with students, staff, faculty, and administrators
  • Gaining applicable life skills to help you succeed in, and beyond, college
  • Making noticeable change and impact at RCTC
  • Creating a network of friends

ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES

Support the intercollegiate athletic teams at RCTC! Check the athletics site for upcoming home games. It’s free to attend the games with your student id!

OPEN GYM

At RCTC, the fitness and physical well-being of our students is critical to their success. RCTC provides open gym time in the Regional Sports Center. The Weight Room, Cardio Room, Performance Court, and Field House are available to all students, faculty, and staff. Open Gym times follow campus hours.

RCTC’S MEDITATION ROOM

Did you know that RCTC has set aside a room for quiet meditation? It is in the Goddard Library (GL204). Students are invited to use the Meditation Room whenever they’d like according to the following guidelines:

  • This space is intended for meditation or quiet reflection.
  • Respect that this is a quiet space. Please take conversation, music, game playing, electronics and any noisemakers to other locations on campus.
  • This is a cell phone and electronics free zone.
  • Bring in what you need but leave nothing behind.
  • Please keep this area clear and free of messages. There are appropriate message boards for your use located on campus.
  • Study space is available in the library. Please do not study in the Meditation Room.
  • So that all may have access to the Meditation Room, please limit your visit to no more than 30 minutes at a time.
  • Please respect each individual who uses this space.

FREE VIRTUAL FINANCIAL AID EVENTS

Free financial aid events are available to Minnesota students and families via Zoom. The series, running February 8 through March 1, will cover general financial aid information, details on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Minnesota Dream Act for undocumented students, and other ways to pay for college. All sessions will have interpretation in Spanish, Somali, and Hmong. Participants who attend 4 out of 5 sessions will be eligible to win a $500 scholarship. Space is limited to register soon! These sessions are offered by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, Minnesota Department of Education, ECMC The College Place and Minnesota Goes to College.
