Camp of the 5 Ws – Non-Fiction Camp
Over five days, students will practice the fundamentals of nonfiction writing with an emphasis on writing techniques, interview skills, and story development strategies. This will be (a thousand times) more fun than it sounds. Whether borrowing interview skills from comedy and improv traditions or writing techniques from popular musicians, the week is designed to underscore the importance of fun and imaginative wonder during creative endeavors. Over the week, students will develop, research, and draft a story of their choosing. Those who finish a story during the week will have the opportunity to see it published online and in an upcoming issue of RCTC’s The Echo student newspaper.
The camp is led by Bryan Lund, a professional writer, ghostwriter, oral historian, and faculty advisor to RCTC’s student newspaper, The Echo. He also teaches developmental reading and tutors in RCTC’s writing center.
