Connect with Christ through CRU Club

First in a series profiling student groups to spark your interest

By Piper Fuller

As a new RCTC student, you might be looking for ways to connect with peers, as well as find deeper meaning in your life. RCTC is home to many enriching clubs encouraging a wide variety of interests. Today, we’ll profile the CRU club.

CRU is a Bible study group that provides a social and laid-back environment for students to meet people with a commonality in faith, said president Chad Jacob.

Jacob said the club’s mission is to be a quality community resource and a light for students.

New member Megan Scherrer was drawn to the club for those very reasons. “It’s a way of connecting with people…it’s also a way of getting out of my comfort zone while still growing closer to God,” she said.

CRU meets Mondays at 2 p.m. and Wednesdays at 11 a.m, in East Hall 241, The club is also starting up women’s and men’s study groups. A typical meeting includes a worship service, with praise music provided by the club’s own band, followed by Bible study and discussion.

CRU welcomes all RCTC students and denominations, including PSEO students.

The club is gearing up for its annual retreat, Oct. 14-15, in Westboro, WI, where members will get to know each other in a spiritual environment. The club is also planning a larger winter conference at the end of the year in Minneapolis.

Originally called “Crusaders for Christ,” the CRU club has abbreviated the name to expand its mission, Jacob said. The title has a double meaning, he said, as in a “crew”of Christians.
