RCTC celebrated Ebony Night on Feb. 22. The event was held to recognize and honor people of African descent and show RCTC students, staff and faculty pride in African heritage.
The audience got to hear African music, see a variety of African dances, and even taste African cuisine. Among the performances of the night were several poets, a rapper, and an African fashion show.
There were also two keynote speakers, Mana Mohamed and Mia Erickson, who left the audience with plenty to think about. Mohamed discussed about how one could leave a legacy with their actions and reminded the audience that the impacts they made now could outlast them and affect future generations beneficially.
Erickson described about her experience as the first black woman on the United States womenís bobsled national team. She emphasized that in this day and age, progression and integration shouldíve been past ìfirstsî for black people.
Participators even got to partake in interactive booths along with dinner from different African ethnicities.
