Echo staff report
Dr. Patty Gerstenblith will present: “Saving the Past for the Future: Legal and Ethical Issues” at noon Thursday, Oct. 5, in Coffman 206/208.
The looting and destruction of archaeological sites in the Middle East as part of ongoing armed conflict and terrorism has raised the question, “How can we protect these sites and prevent art markets and museums in the US from becoming a haven for looted artifacts?”
Dr. Gerstenblith, a distinguished research professor of law at DePaul University College of Law and the Director of its Center for Art, Museum & Cultural Heritage Law, will discuss the legal framework and ethical guidelines that aim to deter the illegal trade in such artifacts.
