In an effort to foster additional student success, Rochester Community and Technical College is offering an enhanced First-Year Experience (FYEX) course for new freshman students seeking an Associate of Arts degree.
The OnCourse curriculum addresses several student success factors, and the workshops are created for college faculty, staff and administrators looking for a proven approach to dramatically improve student success, retention and graduation. Used in classrooms at more than 500 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada, the curriculum’s learner-centered strategies represent best practices from innovators in higher education, business, psychology, sports and personal effectiveness. These strategies help students become full and active participants in their own education. The curriculum focuses on engaging and empowering students and teaches them strategies for success in both college and life.
As RCTC prepares to make this a required course in fall 2018 for students new to college seeking to earn an Associate of Arts degree, RCTC has brought this training to campus to help faculty prepare for this exciting new class. In the spirit of collaboration, RCTC has offered to share the training with sister institutions in the Minnesota State system so other colleges and their faculty can benefit from this excellent opportunity as well. Joining RCTC in the training are faculty from Hennepin Technical College; Minneapolis Community & Technical College; Minnesota State Community and Technical College; Minnesota State University, Mankato; Ridgewater College; and Riverland Community College.
