The 7-2 Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjacket Football team won its 2023 Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) season championship and is heading into post-season action seeded #1. The squad is currently ranked #2 nationally with 16 players earning All-MCAC honors.
MCAC first team honors were awarded to quarterback Devin Watson (West Jordan, Utah), defensive lineman Seth Thomas (Mattawan, MI), linebacker Martell Williams (Proviso, IL), wide receiver Terrence Isaac Jr (Desoto, TX), linebacker Keshawn Johnson (Cottondale, AL), running back Micha Hobin (Park Center, MN), and kicker and punter Rodrigo Castaneda (Richfield, MN).
MCAC second team honors were awarded to defensive lineman Daniel Graham (Washington, D.C.), wide receiver Jairrus Nicholson (Red Oak, TX), strong safety Jahquii Roberts (Doughsville, GA), offensive lineman Caleb Williams (St. Louis, MO), and defensive lineman Mario Mendoza (Appleton, WI). Honorable Mentions include free safety Ira Tullous (St. Johns, AZ) and wide receiver Brady Walsh (St. Louis Park, MN). Gavin Layton (Andover, MN) was one of seven players honored as part of the MCAC All-Offensive Line team.
In just his second season at the helm of the Yellowjackets, RCTC Head Football Coach Terrence Isaac was named one of two MCAC Coaches of the Year this season. Coach Isaac led the RCTC Yellowjackets team to an MCAC regular season championship, going 5-1 in conference play and 7-2 overall.
RCTC Athletic Director Mike Lester states “We are extremely proud of the RCTC football team, Coach Isaac, and the 16 young men selected as All-MCAC. Not only have they had fantastic seasons on the field but have represented themselves and the College extremely well in the Rochester community and in the classroom.”
Lester adds, “It has been a fantastic fall for RCTC athletics as, in addition to the football teams’ successful season, the RCTC women’s soccer team won the Region title for the third consecutive year and fell to the #1 ranked team in the country in the Midwest District semifinals, and the RCTC women’s volleyball team made it to the Region semifinals.”
The RCTC Yellowjacket Football team is currently ranked #2 in the nation and will compete as the home team in the MCAC/Region 13 Football Championship game at 1pm on Sunday, November 5 at St. Cloud State University.
